Zachary is passionate about teaching and tutoring. He is well-acquainted with a range of pedagogical styles and techniques and he deliberately crafts each lesson to the needs and desires of individual students.

 

Zachary currently teaches middle school Latin. In addition to having taught Reading and Composition and Swedish language classes at the University of California, Berkeley, he was employed as a writing tutor and team leader at the Writing Center and a Latin tutor for the Department of Classics at Gustavus Adolphus College. Since 2010, Zachary has tutored two dozen students in subjects ranging from English as a Second Language to research skills and beginning Swedish. Zachary has taken many courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels on teaching, theories of learning, and pedagogical practices. Refer to Zachary's C.V. for more information.

 

Currently, Zachary tutors in Bellevue and Redmond, but he is willing to travel throughout the Seattle Area. He can also meet with students via Skype or Google Hangouts.

 

Lessons are $60 per hour.

The first lesson is offered at a discounted rate of $30 per hour,

 

If four or more lessons are paid in advance, there is a $5 discount per hour.

Zachary is a careful translator of the Scandinavian languages and Latin. He is fluent in English and Swedish and taught English composition and beginning and intermediate Swedish language courses at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned a B.A. in Latin and Swedish and an M.A. in Scandinavian Languages and Literature. Zachary's rate varies according to the length and difficulty of the project, but ranges from $0.09 to $0.15 per word.

Editing and Proofreading

 Zachary is a discerning editor and fastidious proofreader. In addition to having taught a number of composition and language courses at the University of California, Berkeley, he has ten years of experience as a writing tutor. His past editing projects and clients include:

  • Editing a chapter in Associate Professor Jonas Wellendorf's  Gods and Humans in Medieval Scandinavia: Retying the Bonds (2018).

  • Editing a graduate student's master's thesis.

  • Editing and beta reading short stories and novels for a number of aspiring writers.

  • Proofreading conference presentations for a business person with English as a second language.


Student papers can be completed within three days in normal circumstances. Other projects may take between one and hree weeks to complete, but can be expedited for an additional surcharge of 30% of the normal fee.
